The firm represents individual clients in estate planning and in the administration of estates, trusts, guardianships and conservatorships. This encompasses the implementation of estate plans that permit family wealth to be transferred as the lowest possible tax and administrative cost, disability planning through the use of durable powers of attorney for health care and asset management, nominations of conservator of the person and estate and creations of funded revocable trusts. It also includes the selection of the appropriate estate planning vehicles, such as custodianships, wills, testamentary trusts and domestic and offshore revocable and irrevocable inter vivos trusts, as well as liquidity planning to provide for the payment of death taxes and costs of administration through optimal use of the unified credit, marital deduction, life insurance and charitable giving. The firm also assists clients in maximizing use of the generation-skipping transfer tax exemptions through lifetime and testamentary gifts and irrevocable life insurance trusts and evaluation and implementation of sophisticated estate freezing techniques, such as charitable split-interest trusts, installment sales, corporate recapitilizations, partnership freezes, buy-sell agreements, family partnership freezes, and specialized insurance protection.
